Golden HSE Winners 2017
This year’s Golden HSE awards ceremony took place on December 1 and saw a record number of nominees with 355 contenders for 10 different nomination categories. The winners of each category were determined in two stages. In addition, this year’s event was the second time the Golden Citation award was given out. This is an ‘award within an award’ that is given to the most-cited researcher.
‘Mega-grants’ for HSE Research Departments
The Russian government recently announced the results of the sixth round of ‘mega-grants’ for research at Russian universities and research centres. Among the winners there are three HSE research projects.
Freshmen Team from HSE Faculty of Physics Came Third at National Theoretical Mechanics Competition
From November 20th – 24th, 2017, the National Theoretical Mechanics Competition took place at the Kazan State Power Engineering University, attracting 120 students from 35 Russian universities.
HSE Celebrates Anniversary Night
On November 27, HSE celebrated its 25th birthday with Anniversary Night (because an average birthday party would have been rather dull). The celebration featured an entire array of different activities, and HSE students themselves came up with the evening’s programme. Anniversary Night began with the finale of the Research Battles, and from 8:00 p.m. onward, the grand ‘Night’ festival by Ingroup CTC continued. ‘HSE Offers Solutions Aimed at the Future…’
On November 27, the HSE Academic Council held an awards ceremony dedicated to the university’s 25th anniversary. The meeting saw the participation of representatives of the Russian President, members of government, and members of the Russian Federal Assembly. Governmental awards were given to a number of HSE employees for their tremendous accomplishments.
Winners of the First International Competition ‘Cities for a Flying World’ Announced
HSE Graduate School of Urbanism has announced the results of the first international contest for students and young professionals ‘Cities For a Flying World’. The contest took place from May 29 to November 7, 2017 and was a part of the admission campaign for the new Master’s programme of the HSE Graduate School of Urbanism ‘Prototyping Future Cities’.

Career Guidance in IT
HSE students from the Faculty of Computer Science and the Institute of Education have taken part in the ‘Put Together Your 2035 University’ hackaton. The theme of the hackaton was concerned with developing and designing AI solutions (with the use of machine learning) in education. HSE students took third place and made it through to the finals!
