
Summer University Begins at HSE
In its fifth year already, the HSE Summer University was officially opened on June 20th by Vice Rector, Ivan Prostakov. Over the next 8 weeks, HSE will provide almost 200 students, PhD candidates, postdocs and professionals from all around the world with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge in a wide range of fields. Many of the courses, all of which are taught in English, focus on areas such as politics, history, economics, and Russian and Eurasian cultures.

Robot Isaac Starts Working at HSE
Isaac, a new robot at HSE, will automatically process publications by HSE staff and make the results of various competitive campaigns more predictable for each employee.
International Scholars to Discuss Political Epistemologies and Marxism
On June 21-22, the HSE Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities will host a conference on ‘Soviet States and Beyond: Political Epistemologies of/and Marxism 1917-1945-1968’. The event is the second in a series of three conferences organized by an international group of scholars, including Friedrich Cain of the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt, Alexander Dmitriev at the HSE Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities, Dietlind Hüchtker of the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) in Leipzig, and Jan Surman, Research Fellow at the Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities.

Why Study after University: Continuing Education at HSE
In 2011, HSE graduate, Irina Demina, launched the startup ‘Button For Life’ (Ru: Кнопка жизни) - a round-the-clock service for elderly people and people with disabilities. Since 2016, Irina has graduated from three programmes offered by the Centre for Continuing Education at HSE’s Faculty of Computer Science and is planning to do more. Irina told the HSE news service about how the knowledge she acquired has helped her to reach new heights in business.

HSE Students Fluent in Korean Will Have Opportunity to Take Internship at Hyundai
HSE and Kyung Hee University Double Degree Programme in Economics and Politics in Asia' has signed an agreement with the Russian office of the Hyundai Corporation on the opening of an internship programme.

Having studied gender imbalances in disciplines such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics, HSE sociologists propose steps to support women in choosing STEM and staying in this field.
HSE Becomes LHCb Associate Member at CERN
The Higher School of Economics has joined the LHCb collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider, which is operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The group from HSE will consist of researchers from the Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis (LAMBDA). This will give HSE researchers full access to data from the collaboration and allow the university to participate in various projects.
Changes in Education Start with Innovations ‘from Below’
On June 5th, the results of the Competition of Innovations in Education (KIVO–2018) were announced. The competition was organized by the HSE Institute of Education together with the Rybakov Fund. Out of 503 applications, the jury selected 28 projects. Their authors will take part in an innovation accelerator summer school, which will take in Moscow in late June. The competition finals will be held in autumn.

Vegetarian Food and American Music in Tolstoy’s Russia
This spring, HSE University - St. Petersburg has been especially lucky with old and new friends coming to visit. From 14th to 30th of May we hosted a group from University of Dayton, Ohio, that came to participate in the programme ‘Tolstoy’s Russia’ and to learn more about the past and present of our country.
