HSE University Opens Joint Laboratory with Samsung Research
Samsung-HSE Laboratory will develop mechanisms of Bayesian inference in modern neural networks, which will solve a number of problems in deep learning. The laboratory team will be made up of the members of the Bayesian Methods Research Group — one of the strongest scientific groups in Russia in the field of machine learning and Bayesian inference. It will be headed by a professor of the Higher School of Economics Dmitry Vetrov.
InfoWatch and MIEM HSE Found New Department
The Higher School of Economics and InfoWatch Group, a Russian developer of information security solutions for organizations, have announced a new Department for Organizational Information Security as part of the School of Electronic Engineering of the Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE). The decision was made by the HSE’s Academic Council and InfoWatch President, Natalya Kaspersky, has been named Head.

With the Joint Department with Deloitte, the HSE School of Finance now has joint departments with all of the Big Four audit and consulting firms.
Interview with Newest Fashion Curator Leonid Alexeev
The School of Design’s fashion team just became stronger thanks to its newest designer Leonid Alexeev. Leonid is a unique professional who is not only the creator of a brand that offers both a men’s and women’s collection, nor is he just the mastermind behind several lines of clothing made by well known Russian companies; Leonid has also headed the design bureau at the Ministry of Defence, designed costumes for various Moscow theatres, and also launched a clothing line for football fans. Beginning this academic year, Leonid will teach both bachelor’s and master’s students at the HSE School of Design. HSE Launches ‘Bachelor+’ Continuing Education Project
Starting from the next academic year, Bachelor’s students at HSE will have the opportunity to include the courses of a specially designed continuing education project in their curriculum. Those who choose these courses will have additional advantages on the labour market.
HSE and Seoul National University Sign Cooperation Agreement
On July 17, 2017, HSE signed a memorandum of understanding on academic and research cooperation with Seoul National University (SNU). It covers joint research, joint projects, student and staff visits, as well as the sharing of academic resources.
Designing Interaction with Mobile Devices: New HSE Course Now Available on Coursera
A new English-taught course offered by the HSE Faculty of Computer Science kicks off on Coursera on July 17, 2017: Mobile Interaction Design: How to Design Usable Mobile Products and Services. Its author is Pavel Manakhov, Associate Professor at the HSE School of Software Engineering and Lead Interaction Designer at UsabilityLab.
Data Culture: HSE Will Teach All Its Students to Work with Data
HSE will launch a new project called Data Culture in September 2017. Starting their very first year, HSE bachelor’s students will learn to work with data, and students in a number of programmes will also become familiarised with methods of machine-learning and artificial intelligence.
HSE Signs Cooperation Agreement with Hitotsubashi University
On June 19 the Higher School of Economics signed a cooperation agreement with Hitotsubashi University in Japan. The agreement covers mutual visits for lecturers and researchers, student exchange programmes, as well as joint research projects, academic events, and publications.
New HSE Student Council Representatives Aim to Bridge Communication Gap for International Students
In May 2017, representatives of the International Students’ Association Council were elected to the HSE Student Council for the first time. They will serve until February 2018 when a new election will take place. The International Student Association Council (or International Student Council for short) currently consists of five students from CIS and Baltic countries, and three students from other countries.
