‘Expeditions Give Students a Chance to Experience Field Work’
The student research expedition of the Graduate School of Urbanism has concluded its field work in the Sovetsko-Gavansky region. The data collected will form the basis of a booklet about the main features of the region’s urban space. Other outcomes of the expedition include a preprint of a research publication and the creation a systematized database with metadata on collection methodology.

The conference on Philosophy and Culture in Time of Pandemics ran from September 30 to 2 October 2021. It was divided into seven sessions held in a hybrid format. The organizers and participants discussed major topics such as social transformation during the pandemic, the role of mass media in shaping perceptions of the pandemic, and the epistemological and ethical issues that have arisen as a result.

Scientists Teach AI to Predict Bankruptcy
Researchers of the HSE Graduate School of Business have presented a new method of forecasting bankruptcies in businesses using machine learning. The method makes it possible to fully utilize information on a company’s financial state and to make more accurate predictions than traditional statistical approaches. The research has been published in the journal Expert Systems with Applications.

HSE University has entered the top 100 universities in the Times Higher Education Rankings for Law and Social Sciences. For the first time, the university is also among the top 150 in the Education ranking and the top 200 in Business & Economics.

Two Contestants Correctly Guess All Three Nobel Prize Winners in Economics
The two winners of the Andrej Bremzen competition to correctly predict all three awardees are Ivan Susin, a Research Assistant at the HSE International Laboratory for Experimental and Behavioural Economics, and Maxim Ananyev, a researcher at the University of Melbourne. They both named David Card, Joshua Angrist, and Guido Imbens, and will now receive prizes from the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences.

HSE University Strengthens Its Leading Position in Russian Rating of Entrepreneurial Universities
According to the rating by the Expert Analytical Centre, HSE University has become one of the best entrepreneurial universities in Russia, entering the top three and sharing 1st–3rd place with MIPT and St. Petersburg State University. The final rating included 43 Russian universities. The rating methodology is focused on startups founded by university graduates, the number of graduates to do so, and the volume of investment in such projects.
