HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov and Perm Krai Governor Dmitry Makhonin have agreed to organize an annual forum for experts, young professionals, university representatives and employers. Its goal is to develop solutions in career guidance and self-fulfilment for young professionals. The agreement was reached as part of the university administration’s official visit to Perm.

The All-Russian Congress of Mathematics Teachers opened on August 15 at the Sirius Educational Centre. Top leaders from HSE University, Moscow State University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and other universities; scholars and teachers; as well as representatives from government agencies took part in the venue. HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov noted the branches of mathematics that he believes need to be given greater priority in the high school curriculum. Mr. Anisimov also spoke about the initiatives HSE University is taking to transform mathematics education.

Stephen Deduck, from New Jersey, USA, enrolled at HSE University after spending a study-abroad semester in St. Petersburg. He received his Master’s in International Business in 2020 and is now working in an international office of an American university to help other students interested in studying abroad. Stephen spoke to us about the content of the master’s programme, the benefits of learning Russian, and why HSE University is a great choice for international students.

Galin Tihanov, Chief Research Fellow of Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities and Professor of Queen Mary University of London, and Sergey Ivanov, Professor of the HSE Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies (IOCS) have been elected fellows of the British Academy. In an interview with the HSE News Service, Sergey Ivanov speaks about this important event, his new responsibilities as a fellow of the Academy, and his short-term research plans.

Nikolay Kuzin, a 2011 graduate of ICEF, is brand manager at Sanofi Pasteur (France), a company that has been manufacturing vaccines for many years and where he oversees the launch of new products in Eastern European markets. We spoke with Nikolay about how he combines the background in finance with the administrative responsibilities in his position, about the unique nature of French master’s programmes, about how long it really takes to develop a vaccine, and about why Europeans trust medical developments in their countries.

International applications to HSE University are open until August 10 for graduate programmes and August 15 for undergraduate programmes. Every year, the university attracts a large number of international students to its Russian and English-taught programmes. Having earned degrees in International Relations and Energy, Tulio Bunder from Brazil wanted to pursue his research in Eurasian Energy Geopolitics, which led him to the Master's programme in Comparative Politics of Eurasia. Though based in another BRICS country, he decided to study in Russia—and despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and his long-distance relationship with Saint Petersburg and HSE University, he seems happy with his choice.

Parisa Esmaeilkhani, from Iran, and Anshuman Sharma, from India, are currently studying in HSE University’s English-taught Master’s programmes.
