John P. Round is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sociology and a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies. His has written about the informal economy in Russia and Ukraine and currently he is working on protest and ideas of rejecting the state. We asked John to tell us about his experience of working as a foreign academic in Russia.

Yaroslav Kuzminov, HSE Rector and Head of the Russian Federation Public Chamber Commission on Education Development, participated in the discussion surrounding the draft annual report on the state of civil society in Russia.

On December 20-21 the HSE is hosting an international conference on ‘The Post-Soviet Space as a Language Project: Media, Politics, and Culture’. The conference will highlight the most important aspects of the ethnolinguistic situation in Russia and abroad, and determine the role of the media in the formation of these phenomena.

They have to be able to act inambiguous conditions, and this forces modern business leaders to master new leadership strategies.  Andrey Rossokhin spoke on leadership and the modern role of psychoanalysis in business at a conference ‘Psychoanalysis and Business’, organized by the HSE Faculty of Psychology Department of Psychoanalysis and Business Consulting.

Transmedia storytelling is one of the latest phenomena in the media world. Dr. Renira Rampazzo Gambarato, Assistant Professor at the HSE Faculty of Media Communications, agreed to give an interview to the HSE News Service, to shed some light on the subject.

A new article by Kirill Zhirkov, a Research Fellow with the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, was published recently online in the international peer-reviewed journal Conflict Management and Peace Science.

Visiting Professor Elise Kimerling Wirtschafter of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, is spending this semester teaching in the HSE’s Department of History.  Before departing Moscow later this month, she kindly agreed to give an interview to the HSE News Service.
