Advancing Medieval Studies in Halle

Mikhail Boytsov, Professor in the HSE’s Faculty of History, recently held the Christan Wolff professorship at the Martin Luther University in Halle and Wittenberg. He spoke with the HSE news service about his experience working in Germany and his plans for future research.

Igor Chirikov Appointed Director of the SERU International Consortium

Igor Chirikov, Research Fellow at the HSE Institute of Education, who has been appointed director of the Student Experience in the Research University International (SERU-I) Consortium, will start working at the University of California Berkeley from August 2014, but will still continue to supervise  research at the HSE Institute of Education.

Categorical Data Analysis

From 29 June to 12 July the HSE Laboratory of Comparative Social Research is holding the Fourth International Summer School on Categorical Data Analysis in Zelenogorsk in the suburbs of St Petersburg. This year academics have come both from the Russian regions and from abroad — CIS, Germany, Israel, Romania and the USA.

Student Delegation from Singapore Coincides with Master Class by Professor Desai Narasimhalu

From July 5-12, the HSE Innovation and Enterprise Office is hosting a visit by Singapore students. Their programme will include educational, as well as cultural and entertainment activities. Included in the programme is a master class by Professor Desai Narasimhalu, known by many as the sensei of the innovation industry.

HSE Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies

On June 27, the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies signed a cooperation agreement. The groundwork for the agreement had been laid over a period of several months, since December 2013, when a delegation from the Institute first visited the HSE St. Petersburg campus.

Centre for Youth Studies Expands Cooperation in Scotland

For the third time the Centre for Youth Studies (CYS) at the HSE Saint Petersburg has participated in the Dalglish Visiting Fellowship, a programme of international cooperation in which scientists from SRC ‘Region’ and the Centre for Youth Studies receive training at CRCEES (Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies) in Glasgow. In 2014, Elvira Arif, a CYS researcher, won the only position that is provided annually for Russian researchers within the programme.

Joining Continents

Eleven American students, led by Professor Jennifer Bown from Brigham Young University in Utah, spent nearly six weeks at the Higher School of Economics Nizhny Novgorod campus. During their time, they lived with host families and attended classes to practice their Russian and learn about Russian national identity and culture.

HSE and GDF Suez Partnership: Results of the First Academic Year

HSE’s International Institute of Administration and Business (IIAB) is selecting students for the Master in European Business (MEB) programme. The programme is being carried out with the cooperation of several international companies. The annual symposium of the Association of German and Russian Economists (dialog e.V.), which is open to all who are interested, will take place in Moscow on May 23-25. The dialog e.V. Association has held the symposium for 15 years in a row and is in its own way a platform for creating and developing the Russian-German contact network in the fields of economics, politics, management and education.

Nizhny Novgorod Hosts World Experts in Computer Science

The Summer School on Operational Research and Applications, which took place as part of the International Conference on Network Analysis, ended on May 18 at HSE’s campus in Nizhny Novgorod.
