International Students Want to Continue Their Studies at HSE
In the second semester of the study exchange at HSE more than thirty new international students are arriving from our partner universities in Italy, Austria, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Finland, South Korea and the USA. Another 30 foreign students who came for the autumn semester will be staying on. Half of them had planned initially just to spend one term at HSE but they liked it so much they decided to stay until the end of the academic year.

Alexey Novikov Named New Dean of HSE Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning
Alexey Novikov has been named the new Dean of the HSE Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning. He will be continuing the work of one of HSE's founders and the School's first dean, Alexander Vysokovsky, who died unexpectedly on December 22 of last year.
HSE Recognized by IIE Heiskell Awards for 'Internationalizing the Campus'
The Higher School of Economics was recognized by the Institute of International Education (IIE) for its internationalization initiatives and given honorable mention for the Andrew Heiskell Award for Internationalizing the Campus. HSE is the first Russian university to be named in the 14-year history of the awards.

During the years of Lenin's New Economic Policy (NEP), this building housed Moscow's most fashionable institution, The Centre for the Development of the New Soviet Attire. The vast window displays were populated by mannequins in dresses, and fashion shows drew people from all segments of society: members of the Party elite, 'NEP-men' and their wives, and ‘heroes of industry’.

The series of descriptions of historic buildings in Moscow owned by HSE concludes with this account of what was once School Number 135 in Maly Gnezdnikovsky Pereulok. This was considered an exemplary institution, and the finest teachers in the region taught there. Of course, the schoolchildren’s behavior was not always exemplary – and one incident even forced the Headmaster to resign.
