HSE Makes Waves in Prague at EAIE 2014
On September 17, 2014, the annual conference held by the European Association for International Education (EAIE) opened in Prague, Czech Republic. EAIE is the leading European association devoted to promoting the internationalization of higher education across Europe and around the world.
This year, the conference theme 'Stepping Into a New Era' presents a unique opportunity to discuss recent developments in international education, including the role of technology in creating global programmes. The event, which lasts through September 19, is held at the Prague Conference Center and brings together more than 5,000 education professionals from all over the world.
Representatives of the Higher School of Economics (HSE) have long participated in EAIE conferences, but this year is the first that HSE has a booth to display its education and research offerings, and in addition, is one of the conference’s sponsors. On the first day of the conference, hundreds of participants visited the HSE booth, including Alexander Povalko, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and Hans-Georg van Liempd, President of EAIE.
HSE has actively participated in a nation-wide push to strengthen its own competitiveness on the international stage along with that of 14 other Russian universities. These specially selected 15 universities are presenting together at a special booth set up by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science at the conference. On September 17, project participants met with Mr. Povalko to discuss early results in the effort to promote Russian education abroad. HSE offers many opportunities aimed at the global audience, from students to professors to researchers, including 12 Masters programmes taught in English and one Bachelors programme taught in English, with two more BA programmes set to begin in 2015-16. HSE also has a Foundation Year available to international students who want to receive a degree in Russian, as well as English-taught short-term programmes, including Semester in Moscow and Summer University, and Russian language courses. Lastly, its international research centers are led by world-renowned specialists and attract researchers from around the world. The conference is an excellent place for HSE staff to meet with partners and establish new connections, as well as to attend seminars and workshops and learn from different approaches to higher education around the globe.
