HSE University and Element Group to Create New Model for Training Engineers for High-Tech Industries
Element Group, one of the largest developers and manufacturers of microelectronics in Russia, will become HSE University's key industrial partner in creating a new system to train specialists in high-tech industries. The training will be organised at the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (HSE MIEM).
The new model of engineering education focuses on microelectronics and electronic engineering—areas critical to Russia's technological leadership. The plan is to develop new educational programmes highlighting the study of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and automation of production processes. Students will participate in the development of innovative solutions and learn through projects based on real industrial tasks. They will also gain practical experience at Element Group's production sites.
This new model will combine the expertise of Element Group, a leader in Russian microelectronics and HSE MIEM, Russia's leading research and education centre in electronics, mathematics, IT, and engineering technologies, whose programmes cover advanced areas such as microelectronics, artificial intelligence, telecommunications, robotics, and cybersecurity. The Institute has an innovative infrastructure including state-of-the-art laboratories and actively collaborates with major technology companies. Its graduates are sought after by leading Russian and international organisations. HSE MIEM also actively participates in international scientific projects, strengthening Russia's position in high-tech industries.
Evgenii Krouk
Evgenii Krouk, holding the combined position of Academic Supervisor and Director of HSE MIEM, will focus on the scientific track of the Institute's development, while Dmitry Kovalenko, a graduate of the Master's programme in Management in Higher Education at HSE University, a previous Vice Rector of National Research University of Electronic Technology (MIET) and Head of the Centre for Work with Higher Education Institutions at SberUniversity, will become Director. His work experience and deep understanding of the interaction between universities and industry create opportunities for improving the quality of engineering education.
Dmitry Kovalenko
Dmitry Kovalenko stressed that the Institute's mission is to train specialists capable of developing competitive technological products and ensuring Russia's leadership in high-tech sectors. Evgenii Krouk, for his part, noted that cooperation with Element Group will allow HSE University to increase its contribution to the training of engineering personnel, ensuring the country's technological leadership.
Ilya Ivantsov
‘Together with leading Russian universities, such as HSE University, we are working to revive a strong school for training specialists in engineering professions for high-tech industries in the country, primarily microelectronics,’ says Ilya Ivantsov, President of Element Group. ‘Our experience and knowledge of technological processes will allow us to complement HSE University's scientific base and create an advanced centre for training engineering personnel capable of solving complex technological problems on the platform of HSE MIEM. As an industrial partner, we will be able to supplement theoretical knowledge with practical skills and share our experience in organising high-tech production. Students will then be able to apply this knowledge working for the industry enterprises.’
Nikita Anisimov
‘In collaboration with one of the industry leaders, Element Group, we are creating a platform to train employees in high-tech industries who are able to meet the demands of the labour market,’ says Nikita Anisimov, HSE University Rector. ‘The changes at HSE MIEM are an important step in the development of engineering education at the University. Thanks to close cooperation with domestic industry, we can contribute to achieving Russia's national development goals, strengthening the country's technological independence, opening up new prospects for scientific exchange, technological growth, and the competitive potential of Russian electronics.’
Element Group is one of the largest developers and manufacturers of electronics, a leader in the field of microelectronics in Russia. The Group includes more than 30 companies engaged in the development and production of integrated circuits, semiconductor devices, power electronics, modules, chip packages, and radio electronic equipment. Products of Element Group are widely used in various sectors of the economy.

Technological Unemployment
In his book, Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future, futurist Martin Ford warns of 75% unemployment by 2100, as robots will finally defeat humans and half of all existing occupations will disappear. Should we believe it? Prominent Russian economist and deputy director of the HSE Centre for Labour Market Studies Rostislav Kapeliushnikov does not think so. According to his paper 'Is Technological Change a Devourer of Jobs?'', predictions of a 'labour market apocalypse' with mass loss of jobs caused by technological progress are unfounded.
