'In Times of Misunderstanding, We Must Remember Our Alliance during WWII'

On April 24, Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia (2008-2012) John Beyrle gave a lecture at the Higher School of Economics on American and Soviet cooperation in the Second World War. The lecture also commemorated the 70th anniversary of Elbe Day, when Soviet and American troops met at the River Elbe on April 25, 1945.

Understanding the Evolution and Acquisition of Cognitive Systems through Language and Music

On  April 27  John F. Bailyn, Professor at the Department of Linguistics, State University of New York will speak on ‘Language, Fire, Music and Chess: Thoughts on the Evolution and Acquisition of Cognitive Systems’. The event is organized by HSE School of Linguistics. An expert on the workings of the linguistic component of the mind, Professor Bailyn recently spoke with the HSE news service about his upcoming lecture and research interests, as well as his experience studying Russian, his favourite music and a host of other topics.

Joint Symposium Seeks to Build Bridges between Russian and Asian Marketing and Management

As part of the XVI April International Academic Conference, HSE hosted a joint symposium of the Global Alliance of Marketing & Management Associations (GAMMA) co-organized with Korean Scholars of Marketing Science. Themed ‘Bridging Asia and Russia in Global Marketing & Management’, the event aimed to promote academic cooperation between scholars working in the fields of marketing and management in Russia and Asia. Professor Olga Tretyak (HSE), Professor Vera Rebiazina (HSE) and Professor Jaihak Chung (Sogang University) co-chaired this joint symposium. The Center for Sustainable Culture & Service of Yonsei University and Korea Economy & Management Development Institute were partners.

Intellectual Capital: Measurement and Management

During the XVI April International Academic Conference HSE held a joint session on Intellectual Capital of Companies together with the European Institute of Advanced Studies in Management (Brussels). During this session, Professor Zambon of the University of Ferrara gave a keynote lecture and participated in round-table discussions on various problems associated with intellectual capital and intangible assets.

Professor Arie Lewin: ‘I’m Looking forward to Being Surprised!’

Arie Y. Lewin, is Professor of Strategy and International Business at Duke University Fuqua School of Business and for the past 18 years has been the  Director of The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). He gave an honorary lecture  on ‘Dynamics of Online Marketplaces for STEM Talent: Innovation 2.0’ on the third day of the April Conference and spoke to HSE News service about his impressions of the conference, emerging economies marketing trends and other perspectives.

Policymakers Are Like Modern Sisyphuses

On April 13-17, the HSE Public Policy Department will host aseries of lectures by Professor Philippe Zittoun, an internationally recognized expert in policymaking and policy research. He is currently Research Professor in Political Science, University of Lyon (LET-ENTPE); Research Fellow at PACTE, Science Po Grenoble; and Vice-Chair of the Research Committee "Public Policy and Administration" of IPSA. He was a Visiting Professor at Yale University in 2010.

‘During a Crisis or Economic Downturn, Marketing Becomes More Important’

Professor Wesley J. Johnston from Georgia State University, College of Business is a keynote speaker at the April Conference seminar Contemporary Management Research in Emerging Markets. He is a Member of the HSE Council and has been collaborating on projects since 2011 with Olga Tretyak, Academic Supervisor at the Faculty of Management Research and Study Group for Russian Marketing Studies 'Modern Marketing Practices'. During a break at the conference Professor Johnston talked to HSE English News service about the benefits for PhD students of participating in conferences, about the functions of marketing and marketing in Russia and about his fruitful cooperation with HSE.

Professor William Thompson Reflects on HSE April Conference

At the April International Academic conference William R. Thompson, Rogers Professor of Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington and Managing Editor of International Studies Quarterly, gave an honorary lecture on Norms, Behavioral Compliance, and Status Attribution in International Politics. He also participated in the session on State Capacity and Durability/Vulnerability of Authoritarian and Hybrid Regimes with a paper entitled State Capacity, Democratization and Public Policy, co-authored with Thomas J. Volgy.

The second day of the April International Academic Conference was devoted to sections on various topical economic, political and sociological issues. Questions related to international trade, economic growth, poverty and prosperity, urban economics, social capital and mobility, political regimes were discussed.  The international participants of the conference have shared their impressions with HSE News Service.
