Facebook: the Platform of Success
On October 22nd Robert Johnson, Director of Engineering at Facebook, gave a talk at the Faculty of Business Informatics of the Higher School of Economics, invited by the Department of Innovations and Business in Information Technologies. His talk was devoted to the rise of Facebook from 10 million to half a billion active users.

Studying the Civil Society
The 9th World Assembly of the World Alliance for Citizen Participation (CIVICUS) ‘Acting Together for a Just World’ took place in Montreal on August 20th-23rd and involved about 500 delegates from 70 countries, with representatives from NGOs, international organizations, media, business and research institutions, including the Higher School of Economics.
Strengthening the Reciprocity with American Sociologists
The Higher School of Economics has won a second grant in the programme of collaboration between U.S. and Russian universities.
Foreign Teachers are Returning to Russian Universities
New amendments have been made to the Russian migration law allowing highly qualified experts with citizenship of other countries to work in Russian universities. Boris Zhelezov, HSE Deputy Vice Rector for international relations, told us how the situation was repaired after its breakdown last autumn.

On May 24th –26th the Samuel P. Huntington Memorial Symposium on Culture, Cultural Change and Economic Development took place at the HSE. It was organized by the Cultural Change Institute (the Fletcher School, Tufts University, USA) and the Higher School of Economics. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with the Symposium participants.
